Make Christmas tree toys from polymer clay- a pleasure! Such creativity brings a lot of positive emotions, both during work and after it. Modeling has several advantages:

  • no need large number tools;
  • you can sculpt anything;
  • cheap and accessible material;
  • minimum labor.

Let's prepare the workplace and get started

By and large, making such crafts is no different from modeling from plasticine. The only difference is that the toy will need to be baked so that the clay hardens and the craft retains its beauty. Before work you need to prepare the place. Put everything on the table necessary materials and tools:

  • polymer clay;
  • a little flour or talc;
  • small knife;
  • paints;
  • paper clips;
  • threads

We will sculpt figures from clay. We will need a knife for leveling the surface, as well as applying patterns, indentations, and so on. The paper clips will play the role of ears to which we will tie the thread. Talcum powder or flour perfectly prevents clay from sticking to your hands or table, which prevents modeling.
We will paint the crafts after the clay hardens.

Wash your hands thoroughly before sculpting! Clean hands are the basic rule of sculpting. Not a single speck should get into the clay: this material sticks well, thereby it will “collect” all the debris. This also applies to the workplace, which should also be as clean as possible.

Let's start simple

You need to start by making the simplest Christmas tree decorations from clay. For example, from ordinary balls. In addition to the items presented above, you will need a foam ball.

Please note that the balls cannot be made entirely of this material, as they will be impossible to bake correctly. The maximum thickness of the clay should not exceed one centimeter! To make three-dimensional figures, use a “filling” from another material, for example, foil or foam.

If you don't have a foam ball, use foil. Make a small ball of foil, 3-4 centimeters in diameter.
Cover it with clay and roll it all in your palms to form an even ball. Take one small paperclip and stick it into the ball so that the ear sticks out slightly. Roll the ball in your palms again: the paperclip will be securely fixed in the clay. That's it, you can bake it (read the rules for baking in the next section).

After firing, wait until it cools down. All that remains is to decorate our toy. It is better to apply the background color with spray paint. After it dries, you can paint with other colors (with a brush) anything you like: the symbol of the year, a snowflake, a snowman or Santa Claus. Insert thread into the eye of the paperclip and tie a loop. This beautiful handmade Christmas ball is ready, just like a factory one! In a short time you can make dozens of different toys, without much difficulty.

Learning to make various figures

The simplest of them are flat toys. Here you will need a little clay and one little secret. Culinary cookie cutters, which we will literally use to stamp out the blanks. We put the clay on the table and begin to roll it out like dough. We take tin molds and “stamp” blanks: hearts, Christmas trees, diamonds, and so on.

Insert paper clips or wire loops into the top parts. Place them on a baking sheet and bake like cookies. Further - only your imagination. You can glue something on them or draw something on them.

Do not forget to sprinkle flour or talc on your hands while sculpting. Without this, the clay will stick strongly to your fingers and the table, which will greatly complicate the making of the craft!

Complex (voluminous) Christmas tree decorations made of clay require a little more attention and perseverance.
You may need to sculpt individual parts from polymer clay, and only then assemble a whole figurine from them.
For example, this snowflake. It is assembled from a base, many different petals and circles.

Or, for example, a figurine of some animal, where the body, head, paws and tail are sculpted separately, and only then assembled into one.
Here it is better to use matches as a reinforcing material.

A beautiful house from a fairy tale.

A little patience and a cute owlet-miracle bird will appear in your hands.

Firing rules

It deserves even more attention compared to making Christmas tree decorations from clay with your own hands. Baking incorrectly can lead to very unpleasant consequences. Agree, it will be a shame if the craft you have been working on for a long time simply falls apart. Therefore, you need to adhere to the rules.

What to use for baking

Earthenware plates, ceramic tiles or the simplest steel pan are used as firing utensils. Be sure to place baking parchment on the last one, and only the crafts on top. It is better to put several layers of paper so that the products do not become deformed.

What temperature is needed and for how long

It depends on the craft itself, or rather, on its thickness and type of clay. Such information is always written on the packaging; be sure to read it before firing. Typically, the optimal temperature is 110-130 degrees Celsius.

It's best to use an oven thermometer to monitor the temperature.

When the craft is thin, for example, a flower or leaf, then required time will not exceed five to eight minutes.
For massive textures, sometimes it takes half an hour. If you decide to burn something bulky, use toothpicks, as shown in the photo. This is done so that the craft is evenly fired on all sides.

If fired incorrectly, toxic gas may be released from the clay! Monitor the temperature and time, be sure to follow the recommendations. Do not bake polymer clay crafts with food.

Beautiful Christmas tree toys made of polymer clay - video

Today our master class is devoted to how to make a Christmas tree from polymer clay with your own hands. We designed this craft in the form of a decorative pendant, but it can also be used as New Year's toy, a pendant for a phone or a keychain. This Christmas tree is made from polymer clay very simply and quickly.

Tools and materials Time: 2 hours Difficulty: 5/10

  • polymer clay or cold porcelain white(we used cold porcelain);
  • glass rod;
  • texture plates;
  • metallized acrylic paint;
  • boat "Yolochka";
  • pastel of different shades;
  • sparkles of gold, silver and bronze shades;
  • small round crystals;
  • Swarovski crystals;
  • brushes;
  • latex gloves;
  • olive or Shea oil;
  • spray varnish;
  • chain or cord with clasp;
  • connecting rings;
  • round pliers.

This polymer clay Christmas tree will look great as a New Year's decoration. It looks very much like rustic wood and resin jewelry, only it is much stronger and will be difficult to break!

To make this craft, we used latex textured flex boards, which can be purchased at a craft store. Our polymer clay tree is green in different shades, but instead of buying different shades of clay, we bought a large bag of white clay, figuring we'd add color later.

Polymer clay is non-toxic, but keep in mind that there are always people who may be sensitive to it, so wear gloves while working. In addition, the smooth surface of the gloves will protect the craft from fingerprints.

We used wax paper to protect the surfaces. A little extra lubrication, such as olive oil or Shea butter, on the surface of the tools will also help.

Step-by-step instructions with photos

So let's get to work. This polymer clay Christmas tree is easy to make, but requires a little time for the product to dry completely.

Step 1: Roll out the clay

Take a small piece of clay and knead it in your hands until it becomes soft and smooth. Using a glass rod, roll out the clay into a layer 17 mm thick.

For additional convenience, we used plastic plates, which were lined up in 2 rows between rolling sheets 17 mm high. This allowed us to obtain a layer of the desired thickness. If you don't have such cards, you can use playing cards.

Step 2: Make a Texture

Grease the texture plate with oil to prevent the clay from sticking to it.

Place the plastic cards on the texture plate and reduce their height to 14mm.

Using a glass rod, roll out the sheet of clay onto the texture plate.

Using a steady hand, remove the clay from the plate. You need to act very carefully here, without any turning back and forth, otherwise the drawing will turn out blurry.

Step 3: Cut out the Christmas tree

Dip the herringbone cutter in lubricant and place it on the textured clay.

Carefully cut out the Christmas trees.

Leave them for a while to dry slightly.

Step 4: Paint the Christmas Tree

As soon as the Christmas trees are slightly dry, they need to be painted.

Paint the figures with metallic acrylic paint in your desired colors.

You can also use pastels.

Or take advantage of the patina.

Sequins in gold, silver and bronze colors look beautiful. Just spray the product with it and rub it with your fingers in some places.

You can also decorate the figures with crystals, pieces of chains, etc. at your request. To do this, you need to not just press the decorations onto the clay - they need to be immersed in the crafts to ½ or 1/3 of the height.

Don't forget to make small holes in the top of the Christmas trees for the connecting rings. To do this, you can use a toothpick or any other sharp and thin object.

Step 5: Varnish

Cover the top of the crystals with a drop of superglue if they are not held firmly in place. This is a clear and very strong glue.

Spray the figures on both sides with 2-3 layers of spray varnish. Make sure the previous layer is completely dry before applying the next coat.

Carry out any manipulations with varnish and other strong-smelling substances in a well-ventilated area. We usually do this in the bathroom, where we can turn on the hood.

Remember to wash the texture plates after use with warm water and soap.

Even with careful cleaning, pieces of clay can get stuck between the textures. To do this, simply wait until the clay dries and then bend the flexible plates and use a stiff brush to remove the remaining material.

Step 6: Hang the Christmas Tree

As a star for the Christmas tree, we used Swarovski crystals, which were fixed inside a metal ring with wire.

After that, we attached another connecting ring at the top, into which we threaded a chain with a clasp. If you prefer cords with clips, you can use them.

What could be more relevant in New Year's decorations like miniature Christmas trees dusted with snow or hung with toys? The mini master class that I offer on making Christmas trees from polymer clay will help you in a short time (about 15 minutes to make one tree) to create a decoration in the form of earrings or pendants that will perfectly highlight and complete your New Year's image and style.

Materials and tools used for making Christmas trees:

1. green or light green polymer clay;
2. metal nails with a head;
3. nail clippers or small scissors;
4. glitters and glosses that are metallized and will not burn when fired;
5. brush for applying glitter;
6. varnish for polymer clay.

So, let's start sculpting:

1. Knead the green plastic thoroughly until it becomes soft and elastic, and form it into a drop 2 cm high and the largest part 1.5 cm wide.

2. Using the shaft of a metal nail, pierce the drop through the entire body so that the head of the nail is slightly pressed into the bottom of the spruce.

3. Using nail clippers or small scissors, you need to pinch (cut) the plastic and form sharp needles. It is necessary to pluck the surface of the clay from the upper narrowed part of the drop and smoothly move to the bottom of the spruce.

4. If you make earrings, try to ensure that the drops are initially the same in shape and size. Before baking, the needles can be slightly raised - then the Christmas tree will be more fluffy.

5. Using a brush, apply glitter or dry crumbly shadows evenly over the entire surface of the Christmas trees, the main thing is that they are metallized and easy to transfer high temperatures. Place the Christmas trees in the oven for firing. Observe the baking temperature and time spent in the oven according to the recommendations given by the manufacturer on the plastic packaging.

6. After firing, coat the product with varnish, since without coating the glitter may come off the surface of the Christmas trees over time. Make a loop from the stud of the stud using pliers and hang earrings if these are earrings, or a chain if this is a pendant. You can also make it as a gift for your friend

In our modern times, when all the stores are filled with consumer goods in the field of decorative plastics, there arises urgent need individual approaches to creating unique products. The special beauty lies in creating your own unique product with your own hands and placing it in your home or giving it to a friend. My flight of imagination focused on the New Year theme and the idea arose to make a Christmas tree pencil holder.

For production we need:

  • natural clay;
  • water;
  • stacks;
  • oilcloth;
  • brush.

1. Knead the clay, which likes a moderate amount of water. How to check? Roll out a rope of clay and fold it in half. If there are no cracks at the break, then you can sculpt, if there are, then knead the clay and add water.

2. We connect the rolled strand into a ring and place it on an oilcloth or a machine that can be rotated around its axis.

3. We place the second and subsequent bundles on top of each other and lubricate each other so that the connection between the outside and the inside is not visible, creating a smooth surface. When the cone has been molded, it is necessary to smooth it well and polish it on all sides.

5. To create a semblance of Christmas tree branches, we stick ropes onto the cone from bottom to top without covering the holes.

6. Let’s make a pig on one of the branches of our Christmas tree. To do this, roll up an oval and stick it to the tree. We sculpt a ball onto the oval - this will be the head. We make ears from triangles. We make a patch from a small flattened ball. We make legs and a tail from the strands. We lubricate all the details well, creating the image of a cheerful pig.

7. Draw needles on the Christmas tree in a stack.

8. When all the parts are molded, polish the product with fingers soaked in water and a brush (for small parts).

9. Leave until completely dry. If you have a kiln, we fire it at a temperature of 1000 degrees.

10. After drying or firing, we paint our pencil box with gouache or acrylic paints. Cover with varnish.

Greetings everyone! Our hearts are filled with happiness because we are on the eve of the holiday. We are waiting for something wonderful and mysterious. The time when the old year passes and a new one begins is magical! Which means it's time to decorate your home! :sparkles: In this regard, today I will tell you how to make a small Christmas tree from polymer clay with your own hands! :christmas_tree:

First, let's figure out how you can use this Christmas tree?

Firstly, it can serve as a small figurine decorating your table or, for example, a shelf. You can also make from this product Christmas tree toy, keychain, unusual gift:gift:

・✻・゚・✻・゚゚・✻・゚・✻・゚゚・✻・゚・✻・゚゚

Now let's talk about what we need for manufacturing:

:gift: Polymer clay

I use Craft Clay because it is inexpensive, but quite good quality. What colors will we need? Green (I used the color "Alpine Meadow") and brown (in my case it was "Dark Gold").

:gift: Blade

We will need to cut strips of clay, so it is better to use a long blade (you can take it from a stationery knife or buy it in a store).

:gift: Glitter

Glitter is decorative sparkles, they come in different colors, the size ranges from 0.1 to 4 mm. It has a huge variety of uses: for decorating manicures, in nail polishes, in hair sprays, homemade soap making, in decorations, Christmas tree decorations, wallpaper design and much more. Depending on the size, you can get different effects and results. I use decorative glitter in the colors “Silver” to imitate snow.

:gift: Round stack

You can also use a needle, toothpick or any other fairly thin object with which we will attach the “needles” to our tree.

Now let's start making

:christmas_tree: Step 1

We knead the brown clay and sculpt the base of our Christmas tree - a cone-shaped trunk. Choose the amount of clay based on the size of the Christmas tree you want.

:christmas_tree: Step 2

Knead the green clay and roll it into a thin layer about 2 mm thick. Cut it into strips approximately 1 cm wide.

:christmas_tree: Step 3

Cut the strips into pieces about 1.5 cm in length. We bend them in half, blinding their ends. Make sure that only the ends are glued together, and not the entire strip!

:christmas_tree: Step 4

We attach the resulting “needles” to the trunk from bottom to top in a circle. You need to glue them carefully so as not to wrinkle them, they should be voluminous!

:christmas_tree: Step 5

Cover the tree with decorative glitter.

:christmas_tree: Step 6

If you are making a figurine, then all that remains is to bake the Christmas tree in the oven. The baking temperature and time are indicated on the back of the clay package. Typically this is 30 minutes at 130 degrees. If you are making a keychain, Christmas tree toy, etc., you should first make a small hole. This is necessary to ensure that the product does not crack while you screw in the fittings.

:christmas_tree: Our Christmas tree is ready! :christmas_tree:
