At conferences and webinars on SEO, they often say that promoting sites in highly competitive niches is either practically impossible, or costs so much money that the cost of bringing it to the TOP does not pay for itself.

We are constantly experimenting and looking for new approaches to get good results when promoting complex topics.

In this case, we will look at one of the most “worn out” and competitive areas - the business of selling plastic windows in Moscow.

Initial data

The history of the promotion of this site began with the fact that I made an offer to create a landing page for my good friend, Vladimir Berezin, who at that moment was working as an installer in one of the Moscow plastic window companies.

He accepted and processed all his orders independently - these were mainly clients who came through word of mouth. The moment came when the question of further development business, and Vladimir was looking for ways to increase the number of applications for the installation of plastic windows.

Taking my advice, he decided to try to create a website and see what kind of return it could bring in the form of new clients. At the first stage, it was a one-page landing page created based on recommendations search engines and taking into account a detailed analysis of the TOP sites in this topic.

Difficulties

The key problem we encountered at the first stage is high competition in this topic, the market is highly oversaturated with supply. As a result, there is a constant struggle between competitors for positions in the search results and huge budgets are spent on promoting sites from the TOP 5.

The table clearly shows that each domain is at least 10 years old, and the link mass is very large, as for commercial sites.

So if you set a goal to catch up with sites in terms of link mass, then as soon as possible this is impossible to do. And although many optimizers still analyze the budget and the possibility of promotion, starting only from the amount of link mass, in fact, this principle has been useless for many years.

If you approach the problem from the technical side of promotion, you can immediately notice one pattern: the websites of all successful competitors are very well thought out and thought out in detail.

As a rule, all sections with services on these sites have the form of high-quality landing pages. That is, roughly speaking, each page was made according to the principle landing page– pages with a special algorithm for presenting information, due to which high website conversion is achieved. However, as a result of this approach, the cost of development greatly increases, since all pages will be unique in design and functionality, and for each of them you need to make a prototype, layout, layout and programming modules.

Solution

A new website was created for the project and a new domain name was registered.

For naming, the client’s initials were used in combination with the name of the basic supplier of window profiles - this is how vrehau.ru appeared.

A clear technical specification was formed for the development of a high-quality resource optimized for promotion. The design was thought out taking into account the recommendations of Yandex and Google, as well as best practices competitors.

To do this, we took the TOP 20 sites from Yandex results by main keywords and carefully analyzed their structure, identified trends in the user interface: what blocks the site pages consist of, what answers are given when viewing, what methods are used to motivate the user to order - chats, call back services, and so on.

Initial work plan*:

3. The code immediately had to be written valid and without unnecessary garbage.

Initially, the site was created as a one-page - it was test version in order to show the client that even in such a topic it is possible to receive orders from the new site. And when applications started pouring in from the landing page literally from the second month, we convinced the client of the need to expand the site structure and create a separate page for each service.

All service pages were designed separately - in fact, this is a set of unique landing pages. First, for each service, sites from the TOP search results were analyzed, and all useful “chips” and blocks were added to the technical specifications, and the design was created taking them into account.

We also thought through and made a high-quality menu that would be available to the user anywhere on any page of the site.

It contains only those services for which there is high demand. Many useful sections appeared in the menu, which were designed to motivate the client to order, such as “Promotions”, “Our works”, “Reviews”, “Questions and answers”, “Certificates”.

Immediately after the design stage, simultaneously with the layout, texts for the landing pages were prepared.

The technical specifications for the texts were compiled after analyzing the TOP 10 - for a full understanding of what texts should be placed on the pages to achieve best result in the issue. We used and implemented our own methods and ideas for setting tasks for copywriters, which were developed in the practice of promotion in other competitive topics.

Actually, the strategy was to use a number of publicly available services when developing technical specifications for a copywriter, each of which would add new data or correct old ones, for example:

Meta tags and H1 headings were also written correctly and correctly on all pages of the site. To do this, based on competitor analysis and search engine recommendations, an xls file was compiled with tags and headings for landing pages. It was important not to overspam the Title meta tag and make it as concise and readable as possible, while at the same time not losing the necessary keywords.

After the site was completely ready, we moved on to external promotion.

Work on design and usability

For several months in advance we have planned work on competitor analysis, search interesting ideas and placement of additional useful blocks on the site.

Together with the client, we constantly worked on the USP on the pages and updated them regularly.

External promotion

Perhaps one of the most controversial topics regarding website promotion in Yandex. Many people write that link promotion in the case of Yandex not only has virtually no effect on the development of the site in search results, but even with a high probability can harm it. I believe that link promotion works, and without building a link mass it is almost impossible to achieve high results. Of course, you won’t achieve anything good even if you simply launch, for example, an external promotion service or purchase large number links and not worry about their quality.

In our work we use combined methods- these are eternal links that we select according to certain criteria, as well as crowd marketing and analysis of the link profile of competitors (for example, when searching for good directories).

Regarding the selection of donors, I can highlight several points:

1. Website traffic must be at least 500 visitors per day.

2. It is necessary to take into account the growth of site visibility - you can analyze the growth, for example, through https://serpstat.com/ru/ or https://ru.megaindex.com/.

3. Analyze the ratio of incoming links to outgoing ones: it is important that there are more incoming links, but in addition you need to pay attention to the quality of incoming links, and also monitor how the link mass grew and is still going on.

4. Use donors with an Ahrefs domain score of at least 50.

6. Consider whether there is access to the article and section in the site structure, and whether it is a hidden section.

As you can see in the graph above, the process of building up the link mass went almost perfectly, just like in the textbook :)

It is important that to achieve high results, we needed to place links on only 138 domains - and this is an order of magnitude less than that of our competitors. It follows that it is not necessary to chase quantity; the main thing is to gradually increase the highest quality link mass possible. With this approach, you can save a lot of money on rental links, which you need to pay for every day and whose effectiveness is very low.

The main conclusion that can be drawn is: if you draw up a promotion strategy correctly, then in Yandex you can promote any commercial website in a fairly short period of time. First of all, for this you need to create a convenient, understandable and functional resource where the visitor can find the maximum useful information and answers to your questions. As practice shows, it is often easier to create a new website with a new domain than to try to restore or move the old one with its history and link profile - this is both faster and less resource-intensive.
